When I was in the sixth grade, Cliff Orris sold me my
first piece of pornography. It might have had a color
cover but the inside of the magazine was all black and
white. There was one picture I found particularly engaging.
It was of an attractive women sitting spread eagle towards
the camera. When I got home I used a magnifying glass
to get a better look at the vaginal area and I was disappointed
to find only small dots. I hid the magazine at the bottom
of the dirty laundry hamper where my mother found it a
few days later and
threw it out.

When I think of the art I admire,
I am reminded
that pictures can provide
the artist and a few viewers with
a moment of fleeting, precious clarity;
a sense of community with the creator;
and a brief trip home.

I try to trust my intuition and evolving sense
of play.

Whenever I begin a new project, my initial idea
is to make it perfect. However I fall short of that is my
art.
